The dangers and blasphemies of spiritism and of using the ouija board

This post is about the risks  often run by those who organize or participate in séances (in summary, without going into details). Some of the heresies of spiritism are also listed.

One might wonder why there are many "spiritually receptive" people, but there still is an aversion to the practice of spiritic séances or, in general, of medianic practices.

The dangers of the séance are not only just moral, they are spiritual because it is very likely to “open a door” to evil spirits (demonic entities, damned souls) during a séance, instead of being able to communicate with the souls of dead people or with the souls in purgatory.

Thus the risk implied in a séance is associated with a probable contact with certain kind of entities.

Since the ancient times men have made a distinction between good and evil spirits. Malignant or malevolent spirits (demons or the fallen angels) often try to find their way to our dimension and to people taking part in a séance. Consequences of this undesirable contact may include spiritual or animic interrelations, vexation and even demonic possession, depending on the type and number of spirits involved and on the intensity of their action.

Also,it is not said that the human beings involved receive paranormal "satisfaction", in other words, it is not said that the entities decide to "give them a sign" of presence.

Malicious entities are known to be less inclined to appear and more prone to concealment, so it is not granted that they immediately manifest during a séance or "give signs of presence". Instead, they might start to interfere with people’s ordinary acitvities (obsession and vexation included) even months after the séance. Demonic possession might occur when a person becomes involved in a number or practises as a result of multiple contacts with evil spirits. According to some exorcists, the dead never intervene during séances because communication between our dimension and theirs is not allowed or it is not possible. Some others say that damned souls might also manifest, as well as entities who behave like "energy vampires".

It would be extremely naif to close a séance and think things like “nothing happened, no one came, no signs of spiritic presence, so who cares”. All those who had taken part to a séance have experienced spiritual disturbances, from mild to severe.

Professional spiritists sometimes claim that they were able to communicate with spiritual entities “made of light” who have an ethical thinking or seem to be benevolent as they agree to share part of their knowledge with human beings.

So the purpose of the séance is not related to the dead (knowing if someone dear is in heaven or in hell or say things to him/her) but rather to acquire knowledge or information through some spiritic communication where words are inspired or sometimes composed using a board called ouija board, which also allowed spiritists to get yes/no answers following impulses given by the spiritis themselves. Spiritism is therefore not a religion but a technique and the information obtained by doing spiritism can be used to “build up” a religious system, a “doctrine of the spirits” or a philosophy. These spiritic doctrines often diverge from the magisterium (the christian teachings) of the church in several points and therefore considered as heresy. The “doctrines of the spiritis” basically deny Christ’s divine nature, they deny redemption and some of them deny the resurrection, talking of they sometimes deny the existence of Satan.

Moreover, some spiritists claim that they can “control” the energies and spiritual forces they are in contact with. I do not personally believe that they have such authority. Even some scholars became interested in spiritism in the past years, including a few scientists.

There are also common people who, suffering the loss of someone dear and unable to cope with their sorrow and grief, try to look “for an answer” and some comfort in spiritism or in recording spiritual voices.

I understand that these people are suffering and their sorrow is real, however spiritism will  not provide any solution to this. The information they might obtain by séances will probably be misleading when not deceptive, given the entities involved.

Spiritism is not justified by “the good intentions” or the “feelings of love” of those taking part to séances, not even by their ignorance of the doctrine or the revelation that was given to us by Christ and by the Holy Spirit through real mystics and the saints.

There are people who seem to be very receptive to spiritual presences or people who have spiritual intuitions when they pray for the dead. These are spiritual gifts but discernment is required anyhow.

For those of you who have faith and believe in God and Christ, I suggest that you pray for the living and for the dead, so that God has mercy and souls are saved and rest in peace. If you think you don’t believe, pray anyhow, as we cannot judge or measure or own faith. So prayer, not spiritism or divination, is “our instrument of grace”, we must pray.

  1. Dear people, don't even try to reply writing things like: "you can do spiritism, it depends on how good you are in managing the whole thing". No, no, no! One of the reasons why it is forbidden to evoke the spirits is strictly connected with the presence and action of evil spirits. There is a veil between our dimensions and the other dimensions, between us and the souls of the dead. Don't try to come to know about them by doing spiritism. They need our prayers, that's it. You'll end up with demonic deception and demonic vexation, or even possession, and this will bring damage to your life.
