Demonology: demons are angels, but...
The devil and the other demons are angels. They were indeed created naturally good by God, but they became evil by their own doing.
Their "fall" consists in the free choice of these created spirits, who radically and irrevocably rejected God and His reign.
It is the irrevocable character of their choice, and not a defect in the infinite divine mercy, that makes the angels' sin unforgivable. "There is no repentance for the angels after their fall, just as there is no repentance for men after Death.
The devil has a disastrous influence on men, and Jesus Christ called this spiritual being "a murderer from the beginning" and a liar.
Demons and their princes tempt men, so the ordinary activity of the devil is devoted to temptation.
The extraordinary activity of the demons is vexation, obsession and demonic possession. These things happen when humans extraordinarily interact with demons by asking them to do things (magic, rituals, prayers addressed to the demons), by worshipping the devil and sacrify to him, or by practicing things that "seem good" and innocent but are part of divination, like reading tarots or using a dowsing pendulum for divination, or by practicing spiritism, occultism and channeling, including Reiki.

When a human person is attacked by demons, he or she begins to have specific "symptoms" because, if demons are involved, they may "hide" for a while, but then they manifest.
If you are experiencing a spiritual attack, or a vexation, you might feel strangely bad. Strangely sad or frightened and all this may look irrational and yet, it is real for you (though it may not be real to other people, inlcuding your family or friends).
Some people start to have unexplainable fears. They feel scared with the idea of leaving the house, of going to work, of making decisions, getting married, going to school or university, seeing people, praying.
The exorcist priest José Antonio Fortea wrote a book entitled Summa Daemoniaca. I don't like this book very much, I think he made some mistakes. Not all exorcists share the same ideas. However, i think it is a good idea to buy and read books written by Catholic exorcists because the Catholic daemonology is still the best.
I am not an exorcist, but I have spontaneous spiritual perceptions and I can often visualize spiritual entities when present near me or near other people or in a house, including guardian angels coming in our help as well as the demons, if present in a house or near someone or "within" someone.
I am sure that Angels and Demons exist as spiritual beings. And I am sure that praying our Guardian Angel can do us good, leading us to God and salvation, while dedicating to magic and the occult will only just make us become accessible to the action of the demons, which causes short, medium or long-term ruin to humans.
Can demons influence a human person's behaviour or even reasoning? I think they can when one lets them in, when one is possessed or has consacrated himself/herself (for example, during witchcraft and during satanic worshipping) to one specific demon or to the Prince of the Demons. Basically, people "give their natural faculties" to the Demons in order to receive preternatural powers by them. Demonic possession and manipulation is a consequence of this. These people are no longer free as one or more demonic entities have taken control, even on their minds and decisions. However, demons can never possess souls. When a person is possessed and his/her behavour is altered by this, please know that his/her soul cannot be possessed.
There are cases of saints who were vexated by the Devil, not just only tempted. Jesus Christ was tempted by the Devil and won. There were saints who were disturbed and had demonic vexation, though not demonic possession.
There are people who fall in a state of trance (they seem to have been taken to another world or are just absent, though they do not faint) during exorcism and prayers and sometimes demons or damned souls who have a connection with that person or who are possessing him/her manifest by talking, moving, changing facial expression and altering the person's features in such a way that clearly one has the impression that "there is somebody else within or spiritually projecting himself there or spiritually influencing the way that person talks, even in another language and influencing the things he/she is saying (I saw at least ten people with real demonic possession as I am part of a Catholic Christian group of prayer where they pray for people who have spiritual disturbances).
As these are all extraordinary actions that demons can do (please remember that it is not easy to demons to possess or even have an influence on a human person as it requires energy), people experiencing intense spiritual vexation and disturbances clearly "did something" that opened doors to the evil spirits or the damned souls.
Spiritual disturbances can also affect one's mind: recurrent evil thoughts, temptations that are stornger than average, confusion and loss of memory when it comes to praying, fear for holy things or sacred things, fanatism and so on, can be also symptoms of demonic presence and influence
Please avoid spiritism, magic, wicca and witchcraft in general, satanism, occultism, abusing a pendulum, tarot readings, reiki, divination, direct prayers to the demons, consecration to the devil, pacts with the devil.

It is not correct to say things like "even demons are our brothers". The devil is a cursed spirit, and all his works are cursed. He has no good intentions, and although he is "an archangel of light," the prince of demons, who is called the devil and satan, is a thief and a murderer from the beginning and a liar. Jesus knew that demons are creatures of God, however, Jesus Christ hunted the demons without thinking about it twice to free those who had been caught in the trap of these spirits, and even though demons are given permissions, the devil is not invited to take part in the affairs of men, in their children's education, moral and spiritual growth, as well as in the benevolent interactions between men and the other creatures of the earh, the animals. Demons are the Angels of Hell, which is their Kingdom; prepared for them when the Heavens withdrew after the devil's rebellion and defeat. They were precipitated on the earth, but Satan and his Angels are destined to the "fire below" which was prepared for them. Hell will also accept souls who do not want to be given salvation offered to men by God through Christ. You do not have to be saddened by the fate of the demons because "there was nomore place for them in Heaven" and they could not stay. And what would they be doing in Heaven now?! Being angels, they may possibily exert their functions in their hierarchies in the lower kingdom. The Prince of the Demons then, whose ordinary action is temptation, is not divine but a creature, therefore the Supreme Good is the One God, before Whom there are no gods, so there isn't any "god of evil" but only the One Creator God, who is good. And there is the devil's envy "because of which sin entered the world and, consequently, death". Men are sinners, though, and overwhelmed by their passions. We have a Guardian Angel, but when I think of the demons who "travel the world to take the souls of those who are in mortal sin," forgive my irony, but the present world is "crazy" enough to have basically legalized all sins against life, so when I think of the fall of the angels, I think it would've needed more demons. Ok, just joking, but please think of the fact that temptation in itself is not a sin, so resist and do not follow this world's logic, leading to confusion and corruption.
